The Decatur Prevention Initiative is a non-profit organization with over 25 years of providing quality prevention services to youth and families. Our vision is to promote a healthy community and help our youth and families be free of the negative effects of substance misuse. Our goal is to be a catalyst for community-level change and to promote positive social norms. We strive to eliminate the stigma of addiction and mental illness.
DPI has a strong coalition of youth and adult representatives who plan and implement evidence-based prevention programs for youth and families. Since broadening our focus in 2012, we have seen an increase in awareness of substance misuse among youth and other mental health concerns. Our data indicates a decline in underage drinking and substance misuse and an increase in parental disapproval of drug use. As a founding member of the Decatur Parents Network, we continue to expand our efforts to encourage parent involvement and provide more opportunities for youth to be positively engaged in their community. DPI continues to explore avenues to build on these successes, including partnering with other groups to address the growing concern regarding prescription drug misuse and the opioid epidemic. |
